These phone calls from Scientology will not stop.  I have threatened legal action and calling the FBI, they say they will stop, and then they keep calling.  It is harassement!

6 Report Long ago Unknown
Scientology is a cult. These calls are happening because they are losing money as the public learns the truth, so about six months ago they started a massive program to find and re-indoctinate anyone ever involved with them. This is why you cannot get them to stop. Here is how you get them to stop: 1. Sign up for the Federal Do Not Call list then when they call again file a report against them at the FTC website (google). 2. File a police report saying the Church of Scientology is harassing you. I did. It's easy, they just have a walk-up window and someone to take your info. 3. Go to Wikileaks.com, search for "Scientology", find OT VII leak, download this, then when they call just read some of it to them, and tell them what you are reading. This will 100% stop any harassment. When you read it, tell them it's courtesy of Anonymous.

I have learned NEVER to sign up for any "free baby items", coupons, or anything from the internet, especially those things off to the right in facebook. They always ask for a phone number.  Putting a phony number won't work as they have access to online directories if they have your name and address, they will start calling you for all sorts of unrelated crap and you NEVER get the promised coupons.  If you want legit coupons, go to the company website and sign up for their "deals"....that way you don't get screwed. Most have a privacy policy (read it!) that says they won't share it with other marketers.

I worked at Macy's Credit Customer Service in Mason, OH. When they make outgoing calls they all use a generic outbound number. So when you call it back, its not the same person who called you. They ask personal info to verify that they are talking to the right person and they don't violate privacy laws. They have a back-up call center in India and they cover off hours and heavy call volumes.  So it is a legitimate call.

The (513)573-8739 number that keeps calling everyone is based out of St. Louis, Ms. I was told.  But one of the 7 people I talked to from this number said it also might be based out of Ohio.  So they obviously don't train these idiots good enough on how to NOT look like they are pulling a scam.  Saturday, February 21st, I received my very first called at 7am from this number.  I called it back, knowing it must be a scam.  A recording came on saying "Please have your account information available."  A man came on saying "Thank you for calling this is Mr._________, can I get your account number please."  His name I can't rememeber, but I didn't speak, I just stayed on the phone.  He hung up after 2 minutes.  I then again at 10am received another phone call from "Mrs. Woodrift."  Could they pick a more 'fake' name?  Mrs. Woodrift would not give me her first name, but she did ask me for my account number.  When I asked for her name she said "I don't give that out."  So I then said "So you want me to give you an account number for an account that I don't have, but you won't give me your name?  How does that work Mrs. Woodrift?!"  The moral of my story is, I called these people back and forth throughout my Saturday.  I spoke with 4 people who all told me they worked at the call-center in St. Louis, Missouri, but the number could have been out of Ohio, I was told.  I also spoke with 2 different Indian folks who were from of all places, India.  I actually found myself cursing at one of the guys.  He said "Do you know I am recording you?!"  Haha, if he only knew that I didn't care.  Now, is it legal for him and a whole bunch of others to be running this scam and illegal for me to be cursing at him?!  I don't think so.  I have also gotten the "your warranty is going to expire on your car, give me your credit card number."  I know times are hard right now but what kind of trash are they getting to run these scams?  I sure hope there is a special task force cracking down on these because honestly if there is not, these people better pray to God that me or somebody else doesn't ever meet them in a dark ally.

Like many other people, I did not trust this number.  The best thing to do is either call Macy's main number or check their website (you can even chat with them online) to find out if they show any balance on your account.  As it turned out, I did have an unknown balance on my account, which I then paid over the phone.  I mentioned to the lady that I had received multiple calls from a strange number (that would not leave a message)and that this is what prompted my inquiry. She did not seem concerned, but did not verify that this was a call from Macy's either.  Take my advice...never give any information over the phone from someone who calls you.  Hang up and call the main number for that company and verify them before they verify you!

If many people in this list believe the people at this number are potential crooks, why has no one brought up the idea of reporting that phone number to the National Do Not Call Registry? I have reported them several times recently (everytime I've received a call). The Do Not Call Registry puts complaints into a file where:"Do not call complaints will be entered into a secure online database available to civil and criminal law enforcement agencies. While the FTC does not resolve individual consumer problems, your complaint will help the agency investigate the company, and could lead to law enforcement action."If somehow the number is a legitimate business and it truly works in tandem with Macy's, I would think complaints to the Do Not Call Registry would be a step in sending a strong message to Macy's about customer dissatisfaction and, more importantly, of its incompetence to aquire professional vendors for 3rd party business practices. The website to make such complaints is https://www.donotcall.gov

Hello Everybody,I WOULD NOT TRUST THIS ANY CALLS FROM THIS NUMBER!  They have been calling me every single day for over a week and have never left a message.  Annoyed, I finally called the number back today and they began by asking me for personal information.  If it was Macy's, why wouldn't they just ask me for my account number?  After refusing to give them information, I called my Macy's card (which has a $0 balance) and asked if they have been calling me.  The customer service person said that there were not any notes indicating outgoing calls on my account.  It's a mystery but I WOULD NOT TRUST IT.

36 Report Long ago Unknown
This was actually a legit call for me.  I got the message, checked my macy's account and there was a zero balance, but then called Macy's just to be sure and found I owed money on another account.  I called the number on my credit card to be safe, and found out what had happened.  Apparently Macy's has a very strange VISA card system where they divide the bill into two accounts - (1) the account of Macy's only charges (2) the account of outside of Macy's charges.  Once I called, they refunded the late charge fee for the bill I hadn't paid, but did not refund the finance charge.  Thankfully, I hadn't charged much and caught this in time, but it could have cost me a lot of money with their high interest rates.  I really like Macy's, but this credit card system is awful.

They're on an auto-dialer. Depending on the type of phone you have sometimes there is a lag between when you answer and when it connects to the rep, especially since a lot of reps are in India. So, finding that a lot of people were hanging up before the 3 seconds elapsed, they put that message. Granted, it makes stupid people think that they're paying for international calls when no one is available to speak to people who can't pay their bills on time yet talk about "business savvy", but I'm assuming that it has increased their percentage of connections, otherwise they wouldn't continue to do it. This has been a pleasure.

What do you mean, "These are MOST LIKELY collection calls"?  Don't you know who does your collection calls?  Wen this call is answered the recording says "We have an important call for you.  Our representative will be with you shortly."  How important can it be if the person calling doesn't have time to be there when I answer the telephone, I most assuredly do not have time to wait for them to get to me.  My time is as valuable as their's if not more so.  Get it together folks!  If this is indeed a call from Macys it does not speak well for their business savy.

LONG RUNNING AND KNOWN SCAM – ALL OVER INTERNET AND NEWS FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS NOWFake Debt Collectors – Terrorizing Consumers http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=5621205&page=1MORE ON FAKE DEBT COLLECTORS http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-904-425-9141http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/call4action/17285785/detail.htmlhttp://www.800helpfla.com/newsletter/2008/092008.htmlhttp://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2010/01/ks_debt_collection.html   latest release of information on this scamhttp://www.wvago.gov/internetloanscam.cfmAttorney General Darrell McGraw took the extraordinary step today of warning the public about a band of scam artists making threats to consumers who allegedly obtained Internet payday loans in West Virginia and across the nation. The consumers they threaten never obtained a loan at all or paid it off years ago.Internet payday loans are short-term loans or cash advances, usually for 14 days, made over the Internet via interactive web sites and secured by an agreement authorizing debits of the loan and all fees owed from the consumer’s checking account. These loans typically charge interest rates ranging from 600-800 APR and are unlawful in West Virginia. The scam artists, who speak English with a foreign accent, call themselves “U.S. National Bank,” “Federal Investigation Bureau,” “United Legal Processing” and numerous other phony names. They refuse to disclose real names and addresses and are believed to be operating “off the grid” from homes, automobiles, or from off shore locations or foreign countries, including India. Since the scammers have kept themselves purposely well hidden, thus far no law enforcement agencies have succeeded in locating or shutting them down. The scammers typically pose as law enforcement officers, investigators, lawyers, and bankers and threaten consumers that they will be arrested for “bank fraud” or other fictitious crimes unless money is wired immediately. They simultaneously scare and confuse consumers by using meaningless legalese gobbledygook phrases such as, “We are downloading warrants against you” or “We are filing an affidavit against you.” Consumers who don’t immediately fall for the scam are warned, “Only God can help you now.” The scammers almost always call consumers at work several times a day, and tell their supervisors, “Your employee has committed fraud and is about to be arrested.” Such threats have proven unsettling even to the most savvy consumers and employers who suspect the calls are fraudulent. Attorney General McGraw stated, “Ordinarily my office protects consumers from fraudulent activities by seeking injunctions in court. But legal action cannot be taken until the scam artists can be located. Even then, it is unlikely that the persons behind the fraudulent calls and extortionist threats would obey a court order. In this case, the consumer’s best defense is to be armed with the knowledge of the scam so that all demands for money can be resisted, despite the false but scarey threats of arrest.”McGraw added, “Because the fraudsters make a special point of calling consumers repeatedly at work, employers must understand that the consumers are innocent victims of a criminal enterprise and cannot stop the calls from coming. I also wish to assure the citizens of West Virginia that my office will continue to do everything possible to locate and shut down the outlaw debt collectors.” More information about this fraudulent debt collection scheme is available at the Attorney General’s website, www.wvago.gov/internetloanscam. Any consumers who have been threatened by these persons or wish to file a complaint about another consumer matter may do so by calling the Consumer Protection Hot Line, 1-800-368-8808, or by obtaining a complaint form from the Attorney General’s web site. It's a debt collection scam. And all their threats are false and illegal. This is a very active group of scammers, many of whom are calling from India (and probably other countries) and are in cahoots with a group of American pay day loan scammers. They attempt to extort money from consumers with a myriad of false and illegal threats, and alternately pose as debt collectors, federal and state law enforcement officers, lawyers and bankers. Their trademark is to use meaningless legalese gobblygook phrases like "We are downloading warrants against you" or "We are filing an affidavit against you." Another trademark phrase is to threaten the consumer with something like this ridiculous phrase: "If you don't pay then only God can help you."Typical of many financial scams of this variety, they usually demand payment via Western Union or MoneyGram or credit card. They use any number of phony names such as US National Bank, Federal Investigation Bureau, US Legal Investigation Bureau, Hopkins Law Office, United Legal Processing, Morgan Associates, United Pay Services, National Processing, White Collar Crime Unit and many more.  These criminals also use many phone numbers from many area codes; they're probably using caller-id spoofing software and/or VoIP to disguise their real location. The main thing to remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest, or demanding your lawyer's name so they can sue you, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) has the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) And since these foreign dirtbags routinely impersonate law enforcement, it's also important to remember that American law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection.  (Debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money.A consumer posting a complaint about these same scammers at http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-831-7157 notes that 718-831-7157 is associated with an India-based "outsourcing" telephone bank.  Though a reverse search on WhitePages.com shows that 718-831-7157 is an unlisted land line in New York City, information on Debtbuyers.Com shows that that number is used by India-based Intellisourze. (Source: http://www.debtbuyers.com/debtbuyers.asp ) My guess is that it's a VoIP phone number. This is another piece of the puzzle that fits in perfectly with other information about this scam. There are some reports on 800Notes that have suggested that the crooks behind this offshore scam are also the crooks behind the notorious Bass/Ellis Crosby & Assoc./States Predisposition scams in Florida and Georgia. The interesting thing is that the number of complaints on here about the US National Bank/US Legal Investigation/Federal Investigation scam skyrocketed *after* April 7, 2008 when Florida obtained a $1.3 million judgment against Ted Ellis Crosby, shutdown his operations and barred him from ever conducting debt collections in Florida (Read http://myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsrel ... 5257424005858A6 ) There's certainly a good chance that the crooks placing these calls from India are doing so on behalf of the American crooks behind the Crosby/Bass/States Predisposition scams. Here's the contact information for the phone bank in India: IntellisOurzE BPO701, Sapphier, Nr. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.2.    Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.3.    File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.4.    File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov5.    File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=enIf these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-925-262-1327http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-678-954-6346http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-341-4004http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-856-831-0640http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-949-743-1140http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-410-505-8128http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-917-464-2534http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-210-858-6602http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-775-2121http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-949-743-1156http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-214-245-1402http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-214-245-0922http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-214-723-5572http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-904-425-2863http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-831-7157http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-904-425-2857http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-858-244-0444http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-954-678-9724http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-610-571-3252http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-310-909-8245http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-310-499-9983 http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-771-9249   Scammer posting here as GARY and GARRY JONES http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-860-4509   Scammer posting here as Mike Hendersonhttp://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-212-500-0839   Scammer posting here as Ricky http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-201-244-7722   Scammer posting as Carole, David Brown and AmandaScam alert: Bogus debt collectorsBy Leslie McFadden • Bankrate.comMonday, Aug. 3Posted 2 p.m.Bankrate reporter Leslie McFadden contributed this entry. This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately. What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references."The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology. The BBB offers these tips:•    Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt. •    Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call. •    File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. •    File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you.

This is a scam..... They are calling from the US department of Legislation.  There is no such thing.  I previously got a call from them referencing a different number about 6 months ago.  They try to tell you that you have charges against you for defrauding the government because of payday loans.  They aren't even a collection company.  They are scamming to get your money.  They have all of my information... SS#, bank info, etc.... Watch your bank for awhile just in case.  Please don't freak out when they call because I did and went to my attorney and he figured it out that it was nothing but a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!

I received two different sets of phone calls from Alex Williams, a male speaking broken English but of Middle Eastern accent.  He said he was with the Department of Law and Investigation and gave me a phone number of 714-779-1554.  He left a message on my cell phone and then called me at work.  The lastest call was 2/25/10.  At first, I was very alarmed and asked if he could provide documentation as to the supposed payday loan that I owed.  I have had a few payday loans in the past but only for very short periods of time and always with a company that I know.  He said that I had failed to payback a loan that I had in October.  I just happened to look back on my bank statements and saw where I had paid the loan in 21 days.  I advised him that his records were incorrect and that the loan was paid back on exact date.  I asked to speak to his supervisor and after a short waiting period, he got back on the line and told me that I needed to file a legal suit against the loan company as the matter was out of his hands and he had to follow through on the affidavit that he had and I would be arrested in 2 days.  He asked if my attorney could call him back in 2 hours time.  I advised him that I would contact the company directly and he told me repeatedly that I would be arrested if I did not call back in 2 hours time.  I did call the loan company and was advised that this was a scam and that I was not the only person that had received these calls.  The representatvie of the Fraud Departement for the loan company gave me the information to file documents with the Federal Trade Commission and advised me to simply hang up if I received further calls.  By the way, I happen to be a paralegal and have been so for approximately 20 years, and handle collection matters so I am familiar with the procedures.  I have never received written notificiation as to any outstanding debt from the loan company.  Please beware of these peoples tactics because it is very scarey when you first talk with them.

Received a call from a Danville Anderson stating that it was urgent that it was part of an investigation.  I called back & the first person who answered transferred me to this Mr. Anderson.  He said a payday loan company is suing me for $1,895.00.  But I would only have to pay $660 & set up payment arrangements.  He said I had 2 options---go to court & go possibly behind bars or make a payment arrangement. He said I would have to fax a letter stating that I will keep the arrangement.  I said I dont have a fax machine.  I asked how I would pay it back & he said by my debit card.  He said the case # was CFI150781, ACS.  When I said I couldnt fax, he said it is under investigation & hung up.  I want to know if this is real?  Can a payday loan company sue like this?

I keep receiving calls from this person called Paul Harrison, said he was investigating some fradulent activity on my pertinent information and he also contacted some of my relatives, very annoying however; speaking broken english and sort of sounded like he was East Indian decent, he then transferred me to another officer by the name of Dennis Richardson, also had an accent. This was regarding a payday loan I had out with a very well known company in which I had received settlement on the account go figure, so a supervisor gave me some good suggestions to get them off my back. google their number 717-779-1554 and it will state their fradulent. sort of like a identity theif scam!

I got a call from Law and Investigations on my cell phone while working.  The lady was foreign, that's for sure.  Sounded like she was from India.  Said her name was Amy Jones.  How original!  I never met a foreigner with such an American name.  Had trouble understanding some of her words.  She paused several times like she was reading a script.

I got a call with what sounded like a very Indian woman (as in, from India) calling and saying she was from some 'Law and Investigation' department. Her spiel was very scripted, however, and I'm suspicious of what this actually is.

If you're on the national "do not call" registry, take the time to report these numbers. The only way these types of calls will stop is by taking a few seconds to report them to the feds. :-) Speaking of which, I'm off to report this number this number now. :-)
