We just got a new phone number, and within a few days, we recieved a call from 847-582-9747. My wife deleted the message before I could listen to it, but from her description, it sounded like it was a creditor calling the person who used to own our "new" number. I copied the number from her cellphone and tried to call it (from my phone). The call immediately went into some sort of limbo with soothing recorded music. Called back, same thing. I hope they are not recording each incoming message/tel#, so they can sell tel#'s to solicitors...Jim Smith

When that number has been called in the past, a woman has answered the phone and indirectly gave away that she knew and had some ties to Chris Flood; it is as yet unconfirmed that Tammy Thorp is the woman who answered, however. It is very likely that Tammy Thorp is a faculty member for the Wakefield Middle School special needs department, as seen in Google searches for Tammy Thorp in Raleigh, NC, and 27614 is a ZIP code very close to that middle school.

Add me to the list also! This guy is a loser! He must get any work as it seems all he does is harass people on CL. He constantly removes my ads that compete with his. He will post an ad, than i will post mine and he will delete his and post so he is also on top of my ad. He has called and hung up a number of times. I have a pile of emails he has sent me. He has used my booking system to send me harassing email. He post my personal info on CL and then claims i am the one that is doing it to him!! I have filed a police report on him. Law Enforcement instructed me i should call him and tell him (in an effort to make this stop) that i have filed a report against him; so i did and he effectively told me to "bring it on". This guy is a piece of work!! People beware of this person. I have thought about getting him ticketed for conducting business without a business license.

John, I had to file a police report against him as well.  I think that I may have him on both cyberstalking AND harassment charges based on his repeated attempts to destroy my business and make me look as horrible as possible.  Could you please leave a message for Officer J.L. Walker Carrboro Police Department at (919) 918-7397 ext. 7517 and let him know?  My police report at Carrboro P.D. is number 08-09170 for reference.  He is not the detective handling the case, but he is the one I handed the file to, and perhaps if both L.E. departments are made aware of this problem, they will take it more seriously.  I understand that crimes happening NOW are important, but Chris Flood seems to be very unstable based on numerous reports I have seen here and elsewhere, and I am worried that he may arbitrarily decide to escalate his attacks beyond mere harassment to vandalism or violence.

I post ads on Craig's List, that compete with Chris Flood's ads.  He constantly sent me harassing/annoying emails and phone calls.  So I finally just filed a complaint with my local deputy on him and he has been charged with "Cyberstalking" under NC Statute 14 and a warrant issued.  Deputy said they would not pick him up as he's not in this jurisdiction, but he'd be arrested at his next traffic stop MAYBE, and for sure next time he goes in to register his car or renew his license.  He said it's "only" a 2nd degree misdemeanor but that you can go to prison for that in NC.  Also said it could rise to a higher level or be "aggravated" by other factors, including repeat or multiple counts.  I've got proof of a number of incidents and can't wait to be on the stand as a witness and hand over the evidence acquired by myself and others.

Apparently he has this wonky vendetta against a guy named Jody, who he seems to be harassing anonymously all over the Internet about Jody's criminal record.  I looked and the Jody guy's record is apparently from an incident involving a computer at his office in 2002 or so, and it seems that Jody is trying to do honest business and make something good of his life, whereas Chris seems to be going out of his way to piss people off as well as destroy Jody, who seems to just want Chris to leave him alone.  Why he does this, I have no idea.  I think he thinks the people above are Jody, but their writing styles do not match his, so that's pure bull. Chris seems to have caused enough malice to have more enemies than he can count, and I would feel bad for him if he didn't seem to deserve it.  He does not apologize or show remorse, and he hides behind Internet anonymity when he attacks others, but we can all tell it is him by the way he writes (Poor or no capitalization, and his trademark multiple punctuation marks such as ??? and !!! in sentences) and he's not fooling ANYONE.

To add to the last post:  I just called Chris to tell him all this, and to request a refund, and he said "I don't give refunds."  I told him I would report his fruadulent claims to the police, and he said "Eat s***" and hung up!  I called the police and they said they'd sent a deputy out within a few days to take a statement or I could come down there and do so.  Not sure I even want to mess with it -- too much time already wasted.  This is the only "justice" I'll probably get.  Sooner or later Chris will get busted.

I CALLED this guy, for PC help.  My PC would not boot.  "NTLDR" file missing error.  Chris told me a bunch of rigamarole about that being an unrecoverable problem, and the only way to fix it was to reload Windows, and never even mentioned he would reload in such a way as to LOSE ALL MY DATA -- INCLUDING RESEARCH PAPERS, FAMILY PHOTOS, AND OTHER PRICELESS STUFF.  I was devastated.  Paid him anyway, half-beleiving it was the only solution, and was 100% my fault since I had not made backups (some fault of mine, sure).  Then someone told me that he could have repaired that error in 10 minutes.  COnfirmed this in online help forums.  Called another tech here, told him I was concerned now about experience/qualifications.  He showed up and SHOWED them to me.  Then he told me HE could have repaired that error in 10 minutes.  He then used some fancy software to recover a LOT of my lost files, most of them in fact.  Took a few hours.  In all I spent almost $300 to both techs, when it should have been about $40 and done right the first time.  I'm mentioning this because I just saw a post on CL, where someone said they ran checks on Christopher J. Flood to determine if he really is Cisco and Microsoft Certified as he claims in his posts.  These certifications can be easily verified.  Chris Flood is lying and does not hold these certifications.  Incidentally, I paid by check, and when I got the check back from the bank, it was endorsed "Christopher J. Flood."

I saw the NC stuff on the court calendar, but only saw something for speeding.  What was the charge that you saw that might have put him away?  (Obviously it hasn't worked, holy crap he posts over and over every damn day!)  In my casual opinion, this guy is a pretty damn good example of what a convict SHOULD NOT do if they want to get back into society.  I also saw some crap where he was trying to sell "XS energy drinks" on Craigslist, which I know that the MLM company Quixtar sells, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's an MLM exclusive brand.  He fell for the MLM pitch, so I suppose we can ascertain his analytical capabilities quite well from that (and the fact that he's not some 20-year-old kid who doesn't know any better, what is he like 35-45 or so?  Grown men need not act so childish IMHO).

This is the cell phone number of Chris Flood.  Chris is a convicted violent felon from New York.  He likes to start flame wars on Craigs List.  He not only refuses (has been for months) to follow the CL posting rules, but he flags his own posts in the afternoons from other IP addresses, so he can then repost THE SAME DAY.  He is virtually incompetent when it comes to repairing PC, and in my opinion, is probably more likely to mess up your PC or even load a key logger on it (one of his convictions is for credit card theft).  He uses the email address chris_71@ctc.net  He is due in court in Raleigh, NC in early May for criminal conduct in NC.  NC is pretty lenient it seems, too many bigger fish to fry perhaps, but maybe this will put him away for awhile and give him some time to think about the permanency of these rapidly growing numbers of posts.

This is a guy name Christopher Flood (Chris Flood, Chris J Flood, Christopher J Flood, etc.)  He seems to have nothing better to do than harass people on Craiglist.  He keeps sending hate mail about some other technician name Jody to people and posting malicious ads.  He won't clean up his act despite the fact that other technicians have openly called out to him to stop being so rude, but his response is always a rough equivalent to saying "f*** off."  Very unprofessional behavior.  This is still going on as of April 17 2008.  He may clean up his act eventually, but it will probably take some hard knocks before that will happen.

Thank you for all this valuable information, but what it boils down to is, what can people do to stop this sort of thing from continuing? The last call I received threatened to call my office and have me fired. Granted, it's just words and threats and people can just hang up, but like myself the first call I got was very upsetting when this person says there is a judgment against me and I will be arrested. They catch you off guard. I realize that if they are calling from outside the US there is little the officials can do, but can't the telephone companies stop this kind of call? Doesn't this come under the heading of "harassment calls"?

Phantom Debt Collectors From India Harass Americans, Demand MoneyBy BRIAN ROSS (@brianross) , CINDY GALLI and MATTHEW MOSK (@mattmosk) June 7, 2012 Hundreds of thousands of cash-strapped Americans have been targeted by abusive debt collectors operating out of overseas call centers suspected of links to organized crime in India, law enforcement officials told ABC News. The calls are part of a massive scam, one that appears to target struggling Americans -- especially those who have gone online to apply for payday loans. Armed with personal information from those pilfered applications, the threatening callers, who claim to be debt collectors poised to initiate legal action, have managed to pry loose millions of dollars from their victims -- even when the victims never owed money in the first place."This is what we call a phantom debt collection scam," said Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. "It's a very pernicious and innovative new fraud."Working through call centers in India, the commission estimates that the criminals have dialed at least 2.5 million calls, persuading already cash-strapped victims to send them more than $5 million. Some have reported receiving dozens of calls per hour. They are victims like Cindy Gervais, of New Orleans, who went online for a quick loan when her husband's car was hit by a driver who didn't have insurance.Even though she paid the loan off, the so-called "phantom" debt collectors with Indian accents began calling to say she still owed money. He more or less told me that if I didn't pay, they were going to have someone on my doorstep to arrest me," she told ABC News. "And that they were going to contact my place of business, and tell them what kind of person I am."At first, she said she resisted. Then the calls became more frequent, and started to ring on her cell phone, and at the grocery distribution company where she had worked for 27 years."I was more or less was in panic mode because he told me there would be someone before noon at my place of business to arrest me and take me to jail," she said tearfully. "So I agreed to pay him."After receiving scores of complaints, investigators with the FTC said they began tracking the calls, and following the payments. They alleged the payments led them to a California company run by an Indian-American named Kirit Patel, and that such scams would not be possible without American front men."I would say that all roads of this scam, or many of the roads of this scam, lead back to Mr. Patel," said the FTC's Leibowitz.ABC News tracked Patel for weeks, from the suburbs of San Francisco to Austin, Texas.Patel refused to talk. But his lawyer, Mark Ellis, said he believes it is far too early to pass judgment on his client. Ellis, a Sacramento-based attorney, told ABC News that Patel was hired for a nominal fee to set up an American shell company, and had no idea what the call centers in India were doing."I can tell you, he was as snookered by the people in India as anybody," Ellis said. "He's a 69-year-old man who is nearing his retirement who thought all he had to do was set up some corporations and everything was on the up and up. He's completely dismayed that he has become the lightning rod of this entire problem."A close friend of Patel's also defended him in a brief interview at his home, saying Patel was not trying to defraud anyone -- he was just an unwitting, bit player in a larger scheme."If Mr. Patel was just a cog in the wheel he seems to have been a pretty big cog," Leibowitz said. "It is clear that Patel was integrally involved with this scam." Leibowitz points to thousands of pages of financial and phone records gathered by the FTC and filed as part of a civil case brought against him in the U.S. District Court in Sacramento last month. When FTC lawyers sought to freeze his assets and prevent his business from continuing to operate, Patel responded by invoking his rights against self-incrimination. His lawyer told ABC News he has had to be careful in how he responds to the allegations in civil court "because there is a potential criminal action," but that Patel maintains the allegations against him are false. Federal investigators said the phantom debt collection operation that allegedly benefitted from Patel's assistance was one of several that all trace back to the same small town in Western India called Ahmedabad. Callers use technology to make it appear that the calls originate inside the U.S. Victims provided ABC News with recordings of dozens of the calls, and many of the thickly accented callers appear to be reading off a script. "Subpoenas have been readied, and Monday morning you're going to be picked up from your home," one caller says on a victim's voicemail. "And you have children. Don't worry about your children. We have a childcare department to take care of the children." "You will be behind bars for six months," said another caller. "And once you go behind bars, you will lose your job. Once you are behind the bars, you won't get a single drop of water." William Peerce Howard, a Tampa attorney who represents victims of harassment from debt collectors, said it takes an especially twisted criminal to use threats and coercion to pry money from someone who is already struggling financially "These guys really are the most visible villains in America today," he said. "They make a living scaring people."Mark Merola, of Florida, said he just panicked when the caller told him he might be arrested at the deli where he works in a Florida retirement community. "I was nervous. I didn't want to embarrass myself, my family," he said. He used his debit card to pay the collector $576. Afterwards, he says he realized "how stupid I was." "It just happened so fast," he said. "I got scared." Leibowitz said he hopes with more attention, future potential targets of the scam will recognize red flags before they turn over any money. If callers say they are from the police, consumers should know that law enforcement officers do not collect debt for private parties. If the caller is speaking with a thick Indian accent, but calls themselves by a names such as Officer Mike Johnson, that should be a tip off. And if they're calling 40 times in two hours, that's another red flag. "Legitimate debt collectors, legitimate pay day lenders don't do those sorts of things," he said. Merola said he would like to see anyone involved in the scam prosecuted aggressively. "There's no place in society for these people," he said. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/phantom-debt-co ... 16512428&page=2

These sub-human indian terrorists repeatedly call my home and work number. They call my home and leave a nasty threatening message, but always end with "God bless you" (YEAH RIGHT). They've called my work number several times. The first time I was caught off guard and the call was very upsetting. They knew my SS# and bank account number. Eventually I hung up and then called my bank to tell them what happened. They froze my account and eventually made me close it and open a new one. When I realized what this was all about thanks to this web site and others, I turned the tables on them. The last time they called, I let them go through their speach saying there was a judgment against me, which I know there isn't because if you have a judgment, you know it. You are served with papers.Anyway, when he was finished he asked me if I knew about this. I said yes. He seemed a little surprised I said yes, and then I continued. When he said that the police were coming to arrest me, I asked him if they planned on handcuffing me because that really turns me on. I then said that I wanted to know the day and time they were coming so that I could be ready with my luggage to go to jail. I also said I hope there was muslim terrorists like yourself in jail that could take advantage of me because I'm really looking forward to that! I could tell this person was getting really annoyed. Then I finished by saying, "by the way, I know this is a scam and an attempt to steal money from me. I have reported this number to the phone company associated with it, the attorney general and the local police". There was a short period of silence and then HE then hung up! I don't expect this to be the end of this. If you get calls like this just give it back to them. It is a scam. You CAN NOT be arrested for owing a debt, that is a civil matter and they can't arrest you for it. If that were true 3/4 of America would be in jail. Furthermore, they will not just go into your account and steal money. That would be illegal. Their ploy is to get you to fax them a document saying that you agree to pay this dollar amount to avoid being arrested and that you will not dispute it. That makes it LEGAL for them to get to your account and take what they want. So take my advice and either have fun with them so they get so pissed off they stop calling or just hang up and report the phone numbers to the phone company as harassment calls and they will deal with it. Unfortunately our law officials can't do much because they call originate from India over VOIP lines which make the number seem like it's coming from the US. Since they are most likely out of the country our officials can't do much.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans Washington, D.C.December 07, 2010    FBI National Press Office(202) 324-3691The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started. The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt. If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:Notify your banking institutions.Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers. When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

This may be an extortion scam. Scammers use bought/hacked/phished loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends. The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710  If you've applied for a payday loan, even one that wasn't approved, you may be targeted by this scam.

I also have received call after call from at least 3 numbers and each time I have googled the number wells Fargo and nothing but complaints from others pops up on the computer. I agree I'm late on my house but I called them myself and let them know I will be making a payment within the week and this morning alone I have gotten 2 calls and its only 10 AM!!! They also keep sending “inspectors" to my house that take pictures and hand me a letter from wells Fargo and the purpose is to "make sure the house is occupied" even though I talk to them every month and they know I'm living in my house!! On top of the embarrassment of having inspectors taking pictures of my house on Saturdays they charge me for each visit!! I'm trying to work with these people but this is seriously harassment and I'm losing my mind!

If you are a month behind,  Wells Fargo becomes a collection agency subject to the same laws as junk debt buyers and other debt collectors.  I too had a mortgage serviced by HomeEQ.  When I called to pay my mortgage with EQ, I got as recording saying call, and they listed alot of loan companies.  I had to guess which one bought my loan.  In the meantime late fees started piling up because I didn't know where to pay it.Call Wells Fargo and listen to their message.  There is a disclamer that they are a collection agency attempting to collect a debt.  This make them subject to the Fair Debt Collection Act.What you do to stop the phone calls is send them a cease and desist letter.  In the letter inform Wells Fargo that you do not want to receive any more phone calls and any further communication must be done by mail.If you receive a phone call, or they just robo dial your number, from them after they receive the letter then you can sue them for $1000 per violation plus attorneys fees.I am writing a C&D letter untill Wells Fargo plays nice.  Remember, Wells Fargo is the company that signed off on forclosures by simply checking the date on the paper work and not looking at the content.  They want to charge you late fees, ruin your credit and TAKE YOUR HOUSE AWAY FROM YOU.  And to think Wells Fargo was a reputable company 120 years ago when they ran stage coaches.  Riding shotgun today means gunning to take your house.

We should contact our attorney general in each of our states or get a class action suit going. They are idiots and think there above the law. My Wachovia loan was managed by Homeq Servicing for 12 years and these bozos got it two monthes ago. Doesnt that make them a third party and have to abide by the FDCPA? They are not the original lender!

Yep - It's Wells Fargo!  They are a horrible company!  As stated by others, I have been "working" with them to restructure a mortgage loan only to be told after TEN MONTHS (of sending & updated paperwork EVERY MONTH) that we have a VA (government backed) loan & they will do NOTHING to help us (except RAISE our mortgage amount every month) because they are GUARANTEED payment on the loan no matter if we default or not.  NICE WAY TO TREAT A VETERAN!!  They really make me sick!  Call 7 days a week - 8 - 10 times a day - all hours of the day and night - from all different phone numbers.  They are repulsive.  Oh, and then they tell us - "resubmit your paperwork, there are new programs available all the time" - yeah, because I want to go through ANOTHER 10 months of paperwork, cost and hassle just to be told "sorry, you're out of luck - WE'RE GOING TO GET PAID REGARDLESS"!  Worst company EVER!

They even called me on Memorial Day! I know my payment is late..they remind you every two hours from different phone numbers how could someone forget?! It's depressing without them harassing! If someone commits suicide will the insurance company pay off the loan? ( I think that's what they are pushing for )

Here is a way to avoid getting all these calls whether your at fault or not... you can now get back at them with a very simple APP...  'I am not affiliated with this service, just use it and it has a free component which works just fine, or you can sign up for additional features...once a creditor calls and leaves a voice mail, you can then create a specific ansewering message for them like " the person at this number is now dead please call 800-dial a prayer" or what ever you want... go to :www.youmail.comYOU WILL LOVE THIS Service!!

Wells Fargo is THE WORST!!!  They sent me a letter telling me I qualify for "Confidential Budget & Debt Management Counseling" paid by Wells Fargo--valued up to $150!  When I called, it was their collections department.  I have been trying to modify my loan since last March.  After 3 months they denied me, then suggested I try again, since they had shredded all the documents I spent months putting together, telling me they now have "new government programs".  They are rude, nasty and unscrupulous!  I still have a credit score of 811 and have been a WF customer for over 30 years but they treat me like scum.

If it is wells fargo. They are ruthless.  They call even on sundays, from all kinds of numbers.  First I told them to talk to my lawyer and then they said ok.  Then they called the next day and said I had to fax permission for them to talk to my lawyer. Then they called later the same day to ask if I had faxedit yet.  Then they called the next day and said the lawyer has to call them, they will NOT talk to 3rd parties.   I have told them I work at home and they are not allowed to harrass me and to cease but they just keep calling and calling and calling. When I got my very first call way back when and they anted to know if they could help me, I said your idea of helping me was to add 300 a month to the amount I was already having trouble paying for a year.  Their public relations is such a scam.  They are not interested in helping anybody. If I let it go to answering, they just hang up.
