Got a call from 505-216-0771 a couple of days ago and since I have friends in NM I thought it was one of them trying to contact me. i called back and a lady answered the phone after some music played and she said is this so and so calling and i said yes how do you know my name, next thing i know she's throwing accusations and getting rude when i only wanted to understand what all this was about. she wouldn't stop to let me understand the issue and automatically assumed i was trying to play ignorant and she said you filled out your employment info and gave a refferral by the name of so and so which was maybe 5-6 years ago. When I tried to further understand the name she gave since i dont remember who i might have asked among my vast list of friends to be a reference if i needed them she really got rude saying"oh!! you dont know your employment info, (which i never said by the way)you don't know who the refferral you gave is and in a very threatning manner she says GOOD LUCK as in am gonna do something bad to you guy and she hung up. i kept saying hello, hello nothing. i tried to call back and no answer. I never received a written notice from these people giving me a chance to settle any debt i might have with them or have been sold to them by another company, never heard from them before and as a citizen of the USA i have the right to work with such people prior to them taking legal action right?? because the way she said good luck made me understand that the next step is legal. What the h... is going on with our rights as citizens, it would be illegal to sue someone without contacting them first, sending written notices first, giving them the chance to make things right and then if a consumer with debt does not reply to all that then I can understand if they go to a different level wouldn't you agree with me?? i am just frustrated at the way all this was handeled . thank you for any advise.

These idiots are calling my fax, cell phone, and home phone all at the same time.  All of my phones are ringing like crazy everyday.  When I answer there is music playing or if my machine picks up the call, they hang up.  Today my wife answered the phone and finally a rep was on the line.  She became very rude when my wife demanded to know who in the H*** keeps calling us like this.  The rep was hesitant to give the name of the company and gave us a fake address.  I googled them and found out the real address and have filed a complaint on these idiots today with the FTC, BBB, and my state's attorney general.  This has been going on for over a month.  They call from multiple numbers and when you try to call them back, their phones say out of service messages.  I still have no idea what they are calling me for.  I have no outstanding debts.

They called my parents and lied to them, stating that I will be served papers by the police if I don't contact them. They are liars and cheats and I don't recommend anyone ever contact them. Even if your debt was legitimate at one time, if these clowns are trying to collect it has long since been sold off and you don't owe these crooks a single dime of your hard-earned money! The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them. Here are some questions and answers about your rights under the Act.What types of debts are covered? The Act covers personal, family, and household debts, including money you owe on a personal credit card account, an auto loan, a medical bill, and your mortgage. The FDCPA doesn’t cover debts you incurred to run a business. Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place? No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there. How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter – even if you don’t think you owe the debt, can’t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don’t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector – in writing – to stop contacting you. Here’s how to do that:Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a “return receipt” so you’ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt. Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt?If an attorney is representing you about the debt, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you don’t have an attorney, a collector may contact other people – but only to find out your address, your home phone number, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting third parties more than once. Other than to obtain this location information about you, a debt collector generally is not permitted to discuss your debt with anyone other than you, your spouse, or your attorney. What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt? Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don’t think I owe any money? If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don’t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe. What practices are off limits for debt collectors?Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:     use threats of violence or harm;     publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);     use obscene or profane language; or     repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone. False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:     falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;     falsely claim that you have committed a crime;     falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;     misrepresent the amount you owe;     indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or     indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are. Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:     you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;     they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or     legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action. Debt collectors may not:     give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;     send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn’t; or     use a false company name. Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:     try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt – or your state law – allows the charge;     deposit a post-dated check early;     take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or     contact you by postcard. Can I control which debts my payments apply to? Yes. If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you select. Equally important, a debt collector may not apply a payment to a debt you don’t think you owe.Can a debt collector garnish my bank account or my wages? If you don’t pay a debt, a creditor or its debt collector generally can sue you to collect. If they win, the court will enter a judgment against you. The judgment states the amount of money you owe, and allows the creditor or collector to get a garnishment order against you, directing a third party, like your bank, to turn over funds from your account to pay the debt. Wage garnishment happens when your employer withholds part of your compensation to pay your debts. Your wages usually can be garnished only as the result of a court order. Don’t ignore a lawsuit summons. If you do, you lose the opportunity to fight a wage garnishment. Can federal benefits be garnished? Many federal benefits are exempt from garnishment, including:     Social Security Benefits     Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits     Veterans’ Benefits     Civil Service and Federal Retirement and Disability Benefits     Service Members’ Pay     Military Annuities and Survivors’ Benefits     Student Assistance     Railroad Retirement Benefits     Merchant Seamen Wages     Longshoremen’s and Harbor Workers’ Death and Disability Benefits     Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Benefits     Compensation for Injury, Death, or Detention of Employees of U.S. Contractors Outside the U.S.     Federal Emergency Management Agency Federal Disaster Assistance But federal benefits may be garnished under certain circumstances, including to pay delinquent taxes, alimony, child support, or student loans. Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law? You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can’t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney’s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector’s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.What should I do if a debt collector sues me?If a debt collector files a lawsuit against you to collect a debt, respond to the lawsuit, either personally or through your lawyer, by the date specified in the court papers to preserve your rights. Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General’s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.For More InformationTo learn more about debt collection and other credit-related issues, visit www.ftc.gov/credit and MyMoney.gov, the U.S. government’s portal to financial education. The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. A lady called me stating she was looking for my husband.  I was not forthcoming with information. I asked her the company name to which she responded so fast I could not understand.  Then she stated they are a "processing company".  I asked her what do they process.  She kept trying to ask questions, but I was not going to give information if she would not identify herself.  Finally she became very rude and started to scream at me to take message for my husband.  I told her why is she being so rude.  But she would not even stop to listen to me.  I ended the call with a one word response as loud as I could.  Later the same day, my fatherinlaw calls because they have left a message for him to call and that it was urgent.  He called us. My husband told him about my experience so he looked up the phone numbers.  This company is bad news.

This a telemarketting call from a diet pill retailer, Consumer Lifestyles, selling the new Garcinia Cambogia fat-burner featured on Dr. Oz and the Today show. Usually the call is received because you've given your contact information. It ended up costing about 150.00 for a 5 month supply which was too much for me at the time but, you don't find out the cost until you've already given them your contact information, so when you don't buy, here comes the phone call in pursuit of persuading you further.

Learned a great new trick, call them back at the 800-883-8312 that they provide & ask them 'if they have any credit card debt and are struggling with thier mortgage'. . . and if you listen really carefully you can hear their little telemarketing brains get frazzled. I did this about 10 x's in a row & they took me off the list and blocked my number! LOL! good times!

Same deal as Jray, similar to others.Caller ID is CANC 760-526-8132.I answered the phone and hear a message about 10,000 of debt and a default rate of 29%.  The recording said to press 1 to talk to him about a very important offer. No call back number and no other options.  Of course, when I try to call the 760 number, I get a busy signal.I am on the don't call list for all of the good that does.~Lu

I received a call at home from 760-526-8132 at exactly 7:00 PM.  "Paul" from Consumer Alert left a voicemail message alleging that this was his last attempt to help me eliminate my credit card debt "down to zero."  He said the phrase "Down to zero" twice, and it just sounds ambiguous IMO. Assumably he meant zero dollars?  I don't have credit cards or any debt whatsoever to consolidate.  "Paul" left a callback number of 800-883-8312.Seeing that this same company uses a variety of messages and tactics, I can bet the operators work on some kind of commission basis.  Telemarketers, bleh!

Have been getting calls from 760-526-8132 and 760-526-8134 for the past two weeks, either nobody answers or call is disconnected as soon as I answer the phone.  When I finally called the number back there was a recording asking to press 1 to speak with somebody or press 2 to be removed from there list, all I had to do was give my name and number.  The recording said this was the procedure as they were not part of the "National No Call list".  When I left the message without provide them my name I told them to remove my number from there list.  I decided to google this number only to find out countless people being harassed.  Hopefully by calling this morons to remove my number.  I haven't inadvertenly encouraged to call even more

Just received a call from this number, mans' voice said they knew that I had credit card debts of over $10,000 and that they could help to reduce them. I told them that I did not own any credit cards, and never have.I know for a fact, I do not have any credit card debts of over $10,000. Said they would take my number off their list.  I wish there was some way these people could be prosecuted!

Received voice message @ 2:47 PM, 06/12/08, from this number.  Caller ID indicates call is from CANC.  The voice message (VM) indicates that a David, claiming he represents Consumer Alert, is calling about a "credit card" of $10,000.00 which is now subject to a 29.99% "default interest rate." The VM further indicates that a response within 24 hours is required at 800-883-8312.  Repeated attempts to call the number are met with a VM indicating no one is available to take the call...followed by a "Good-Bye."  There is no opportunity presented to leave this caller a return voice message.I do not own a credit card and have not for quite a number a years.

I also received a call from the 760 526 8132 but the message left was to return call to 800-883-8312...Voice message stated I also had a $10,000 credit card debit w/ 29% interest rate and it was imperative that I call back and speak with David.  Sounds to me like they are trying to run a scam somewhere. Also when you dial the 800 number it says no one is available to take your call

No message left on the answering machine, first call was today.  Caller ID came up as "CANC", I thought maybe it was solicitation for cancer research.  Obviously they change their ID, so they probably aren't selling anything but trying to get your personal info - mortgage is just what people are most likely to have a problem with these days.  I also get (from other numbers) that "it's imperitave that you reach us regarding your credit card balances" (I have none), and also believe they're hoping you reveal personal info.  I don't like to call back because that verifies they've reached a working number, and they'll either try themselves using different lines, or -more likely- sell it.

Constant calls in the past week.  I have never answered the call, but when I called the number, it was a faint recording directing me to enter my phone number plus area code to be placed on their "do not call list."  I did not do this, as I'm sure it would only facilitate my phone number being circulated as a "good" number.  The company or type of business was not identified. As per Peter's message above, I do not believe that any of these companies have "real" information on anyone.  The computers are set to random dial numbers and the script is written up before hand.  Pure boilerplate stuff.  Just don't fall for their tricks of trying to extracate TRUE information from you during the course of the call.

No, it should be illegal for anyone to call you at your house unless they have written permission signed by you in front of them stating that you agree to let them call you.  This document needs to be an individual piece of paper in plain writing with no other writing on it.  It can't be part of a credit card charge or any other document. These morons just bribe the politicians to let them abuse your phone service, hiding behind phony lies like the freedom of speech.  If the politicians would do their jobs instead of taking bribes from everyone who has money, they'd have a opt-in list instead of an opt out list.  Why do I need to opt out of anything to prevent some clowns from abusing my phone service?  It's my phone, and I'm not paying to have it in my house so that some idiot can use it to try and sell me their garbage.  It's my phone and I'll use it as I see fit.     This "freedom of speech" that these idiots throw at you is a joke.  Freedom of speech doesn't exist in my house.  If you say something I don't like, I'll throw you out.  Freedom of speech ends at my front door.

Call was from a recording stating it was my bank and mentioned the possible 3rd party activity. Said they deactivated my card (For my protection). Then wanted to pass me to the security dept to re-activate card. When at the so called security dept: Another recording asked me to enter my card number. At that point (Before entering any numbers) I hung up and called my bank. There was nothing wrong with my card.As a note: Please do not even enter a false number, there is a possibility that you type in someone else's actual number and then they would have problems. Just hang up and call your bank to tell them about the scam.Thank you.
